{"id":102,"date":"2012-10-01T04:51:41","date_gmt":"2012-10-01T11:51:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alan-rose.com\/wordfest\/?p=102"},"modified":"2012-10-14T15:36:05","modified_gmt":"2012-10-14T22:36:05","slug":"october-wordfest-returns-to-the-brits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alan-rose.com\/wordfest\/october-wordfest-returns-to-the-brits\/","title":{"rendered":"October  WordFest returns to The Brits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday, October 2, WordFest will be meeting at The Brits, 1427 Commerce Avenue, in Longview, 6:00-8:00 PM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leslie Slape<\/strong> from the Storytellers Network will be hosting the event.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.alan-rose.com\/wordfest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Passage-to-Love.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-99\" title=\"Passage to Love\" src=\"http:\/\/www.alan-rose.com\/wordfest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Passage-to-Love-198x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.alan-rose.com\/wordfest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Passage-to-Love-198x300.png 198w, https:\/\/www.alan-rose.com\/wordfest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Passage-to-Love.png 212w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 139px) 100vw, 139px\" \/><\/a>Poet and novelist <strong>Carolyn Caines<\/strong> will read a series of poems from her newest book, <em>A String of Perils, Poems of Hurt and Hope<\/em>.\u00a0 Carolyn is also the author of the novel, <em>Passage to Love, an Ellis Island Story<\/em>, and an earlier collection of poetry, <em>In the Noiseless Night, Poems about Childhood in the \u201850s.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Charolette Conklin<\/strong> will be reading &#8220;Oblivious&#8221;, a short story appearing in the Chicago literary magazine<em> <\/em><em>Rambunctious Review<\/em>. Charolette, along with Mary Stone, teaches a creative writing class through Longview Parks and Recreation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sally J. Jones<\/strong> will be reading &#8220;Prayer for Worn Moccasins,&#8221; which is appearing in the WordFest holiday anthology later this year, and also a short story about a woman in a rehab facility,<\/p>\n<p>The Brits offers a full dinner menu as well as selection of wines and beers for those who wish to enjoy a meal and beverage with the readings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday, October 2, WordFest will be meeting at The Brits, 1427 Commerce Avenue, in Longview, 6:00-8:00 PM.
